What is work center hierarchy?

A work center hierarchy defines the parent-child relationship between different work centers. A plant could have several work centers where various operations are performed. Each work center has a parent-child relationship with another work center. Work center hierarchy used for capacity planning by determining available capacity of the work centers at different level of the hierarchy.

For example: the work centers of a textile industry can be grouped into a work center hierarchy. In the below diagram, ‘Textile plant’ is the ‘root’ work center. It is having three children work centers. Therefore, ‘Textile plant’ is the parent of the work centers ‘Cutting section’, ‘Sewing section’ and ‘Assembly section’.
